Housing Options

Hertfordshire is a region of very high demand for social housing. Unfortunately this means many people on the Housing Needs Register (the waiting list) are unlikely to be made an offer of social housing unless they have a very high housing need.

For most people, looking at other housing options is going to be a quicker and more realistic way to find a property that meets their needs in an area where they wish to live. This can include options such as private renting, low cost home ownership (such as shared ownership) and mutual exchange.

You can complete a housing assessment questionnaire which will provide you with an action plan tailored to your individual circumstances.

This will include an assessment of whether you are eligible and qualify to make an application to go onto the Housing Needs Register for social housing in the area(s) of your choice.

General advice on some of the options can also be found below.
